Some people think blogs are electronic diaries, others see them as a publication format.
Both are wrong. Blogs are something in between. They are neither private nor public.

Choosing blog software
Having just copy/pasted around 100 of my posts manually, I tell you: before you start blogging, make sure your blog engine can export at least your posts and comments in a format that is supported by other (popular) engines (at the moment they are WordPress, s9y, blogger.com and livejournal.com).
